Byron Barton
La petite poule rousse is a simple French-language adaptation of the classic fairytale, 'The Little Red Hen'. A farmyard hen finds some wheat and decides to make bread with it. She asks the other farmyard animals for help planting it, but they refuse. At each stage of growing and harvesting the wheat, and then eventually making bread with it, she again asks the animals for help and still they refuse. Finally once the bread has been made, the hen asks who will help her eat the bread. This time the animals accept eagerly, but the hen decides not to share, reminding them that they didn't help make it, so she will eat it all herself.
With simple, repetitive text and bold, colourful illustrations, this story is ideal for toddlers and young children. It is an especially good story for teaching the names of different farmyard animals.
La petite poule rousse is written entirely in French as it is aimed at native French speakers.
Suggested age range (native French speaker): 3 - 6 years
