Catherine Rayner

A bilingual story book with the full story in both Portuguese and English.

Augustus the tiger was sad and had lost his smile. So he did a HUGE tigery stretch, and set off to find it on a journey that took him all over the world through dense jungles, arid deserts, and deep oceans.. He passed shiny insects, birds, mountains, fish and got caught up in a rainstorm. By the time his journey finally came to an end, Augustus had realised that he will never be without his smile again.

This is a remarkable story that celebrates the beauty of the world.

My grandchildren are Portuguese/English, so finding Little Linguist was great. The book itself was greatly appreciated, not just by my grandchildren but also by the whole family, young and old. I am told the illustrations are fantastic! A very happy Granddad!!

When I first saw the very arty illustrations in this book I thought my toddler might not find them engaging, but he loves looking at the gorgeous tiger. The story is also lovely, all about a tiger searching for his smile in all sorts of awesome places, with appropriately evocative illustrations (treetops, mountains, oceans, deserts...). A favourite.
